Central Union Church has a long tradition of hosting the Aloha Festivals’ Royal Court, at the 9 AM Sunday service, during Aloha Week in Hawai‘i. It is a statement that Central Union is supportive of the people and culture of Hawai‘i and is a reminder and acknowledgement of the important role of the culture in shaping the heritage of these islands. This year will be extra special because September 2025 marks the first Hawaiian History Month which aims to honor the legacy of Queen Lili‘uokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom before she was illegally overthrown in a U.S.-backed coup.
The theme for this year’s Aloha Festivals is Ko Kula Uka, Ko Kula Kai – Those of the Upland, Those of the Shore: Mauka to Makai. The theme takes us back to the heart of the home: the kitchen. We celebrate our local farmers, fishermen, cooks – in and out of the kitchen, as well as the organizations who recognize and uplift those in need to have food to eat.
