Today, start your time sitting with this statement from the book of Lamentations 3:22-23:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
Today is a new day…a fresh start…an opportunity restart. Today is the gift for tomorrow is a dream and yesterday a memory. What might this day hold? Will it be marked by love and grace, a mercy that is present? Will it be a day in which surprises erupt and hope permeates? Or will your monkey mind take today into the realm of the negative? Where the news peppers you with the horror of the worst of humanity? Where you doubt the giftedness of this day?
It has been taught in all faith traditions that there is a renewing that happens daily. How we enter into it, and live through it, determines the impact of this one precious gift of today. In the wise words of Winnie the Pooh as he converses with Piglet,
“What day is it?” asked Pooh.
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favorite day,” said Pooh.
May this be your favorite day as you mindfully attend to each part. May you see the gift of life all around you, and even within you. May you sit in wonder that you are alive and discover that that Spirit of God is whispering to you, You are a gift! Rejoice for God is with you!
