CUC celebrates National Coming Out Day

Our Community Ministry participated in the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s LGBTQ+ Center’s annual fair celebrating National Coming Out Day on October 13. We were among more than 25 different LGBTQ+/ally organizations present on campus for this event.

As a church whose mission is to engage and embrace all, this was an opportunity for us to share with students and faculty alike that Love Never Faileth and that Central Union is a safe and affirming community for all, including those who identify as LGBTQ+.

We offered glitter blessings to passersby with words of affirmation reminding individuals that they are beautifully and wonderfully made, cherished and beloved by God. Our friend Jesus was there with us to bring smiles and laughs. We displayed words of blessing for queer youth, elders, ancestors, and allies.

graphic that reads happy national coming out day to those who are partially out, haven't found their place yet, are keeping safe by staying private, are starting their coming out journey, are selective about where they are out, had a difficult coming out journey, didn't get a say in coming out, don't feel the need to come out, are out and proud.
