Central Union, along with many other faith communities, will march in the Honolulu Pride Parade, an event hosted by the Hawai‘i LGBT Legacy Foundation during the month of October (LGBT History Month).
At Central Union Church where “We Engage and Embrace ALL…” we believe in a God of extravagant love and welcome that extends to our LGBTQ+ siblings. Join us to share this love, and proclaim that each person, whatever their sexual orientation and gender identity, is divinely created and beloved by God!
When: Saturday, October 18, 3:00 p.m.
- 2:30 PM – Parade participants meet in the Magic Island parking lot, must be lined up by group in their assigned spaces.
- 3:00 PM – Parade starts at Atkinson Drive/Ala Moana Boulevard
Parade Route (about 2.6 miles): The Parade will kick off at 3:00 PM from the Magic Island parking lot, travel along Ala Moana Boulevard and Kalākaua Avenue, and end at Kapiʻolani Park near the Waikiki Shell.
WALK IN THE PARADE
We were unable to get a trolley this year. They were all booked months ago! Many people walk the full parade distance. It’s a slow speed. Small, self-propelled ‘vehicles’ like bicycles, scooters, or wagons for keiki are allowed.
*** Please note that parking is very limited at Ala Moana Beach Park.
Consider alternative public parking lots such as Kewalo Basin, Kaka‘ako Waterfront, Kapi‘olani Park (at the end of the parade) and/or ride-share service (Uber, Lyft), carpool, bus, walking or taxi down to Ala Moana Beach Park. If there are enough participants and volunteers, we will see about coordinating carpooling from the church.
NOTES:
- Honolulu Pride is a family friendly event. All attire, music, and decorations should be appropriate for all ages.
- Wear your brightest, most joyful colors and accessories!
- Please plan for high temperatures and minimal shade. (Bring your own water bottle, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.)
- Parade walkers will continue on Kalākaua past the Honolulu Zoo and disband in Kapiʻolani Park.
- Parade vehicles will turn left on Monsarrat Avenue and riders may disembark there.
HELP NEEDED!
Volunteer to help with transportation to and from the event!
If you can’t walk in the parade but are able to drive and want to support, we could use your help with transportation before and after the parade. Parking will be very limited. Walkers will need to be dropped off at Ala Moana Beach Park (Magic Island) by 3:00 PM and picked up from Kapi‘olani Park around 5:00 PM once the parade ends. Can you support CUC’s participation in the parade by shuttling church members between the church and the parade start/finish line? If you’re willing and able to help, please contact kristen-young@centralunionchurch.org.
