“The Church Has Left the Building”
A Day of Worship and Witness
On Sunday, November 23, 2025 Central Union Church will embody its call to be a church not confined by walls, but propelled by love. “The Church Has Left the Building” is more than a clever phrase—it’s a bold declaration of faith in action.
We’ll begin the day together in a combined worship service at 9:00 AM in the Sanctuary, lifting our voices in praise and grounding ourselves in the Spirit’s call to serve. Then, like the early disciples sent out, we will scatter across our community to participate in acts of compassion, justice, and care.
A Variety of Ways to Serve
Whether you’re ready to roll up your sleeves or prefer to stay closer to campus, there’s an activity and place for you:
-
Making Genki Balls – care for creation (Aloha Lanai)
-
Assembling Aloha Kits – care for neighbor (Women’s Building)
-
Clean CUC parking lots – care for our shared spaces
-
Visit CUC home-bound members – care for our ‘ohana
-
Pick up trash – care for creation and communal spaces (Ala Moana Beach Park)
-
Advocacy letter writing – care for neighbor, creating change (Rewick Board Room)
Living Our Faith Beyond the Sanctuary
This day is a living sermon. It’s a chance to be God’s hands and feet in the world—to listen deeply, serve humbly, and love boldly. As we move from pews to parks, from hymns to hammering, we remember that worship doesn’t end with the benediction. It begins again in every act of mercy and every gesture of grace.
Whether you’re picking up trash, sharing stories with kūpuna, putting together aloha packs for our unhoused friends, or simply offering a smile to a stranger, you are part of a sacred movement. Together, we are writing a new chapter in the story of Central Union Church – one where love leaves the building and finds its way into every corner of our island home.
Let’s go forth—not just to do good, but to be good news.
