“The Church Has Left the Building”
A Day of Worship and Witness
On Sunday, November 23, 2025 Central Union Church will embody its call to be a church not confined by walls, but propelled by love. “The Church Has Left the Building” is more than a clever phrase—it’s a bold declaration of faith in action.
We’ll begin the day together in a combined worship service at 9:00 AM, lifting our voices in praise and grounding ourselves in the Spirit’s call to serve. Then, like the early disciples sent out, we will scatter across our wider community to participate in acts of compassion, justice, and care.
A Variety of Ways to Serve
Whether you’re ready to roll up your sleeves or prefer to stay closer to campus, there’s a place for you:
- Community Outreach Projects: Join teams heading into neighborhoods, shelters, schools, and gardens to offer hands-on help and heartfelt presence.
- On-Campus Opportunities: For those who may not be able to engage in physical labor, we’ll host meaningful activities at the church—writing cards of encouragement, assembling care packages, or participating in prayer circles for our city and world.
- Family-Friendly Options: Children and youth will have age-appropriate service opportunities, helping them discover the joy of giving and the power of kindness.
Living Our Faith Beyond the Sanctuary
This day is a living sermon. It’s a chance to be God’s hands and feet in the world—to listen deeply, serve humbly, and love boldly. As we move from pews to parks, from hymns to hammering, we remember that worship doesn’t end with the benediction. It begins again in every act of mercy and every gesture of grace.
Whether you’re planting seeds in a community garden, sharing stories with kūpuna, packing aloha packs for our houseless friends, or simply offering a smile to a stranger, you are part of a sacred movement. Together, we are writing a new chapter in the story of Central Union Church – one where love leaves the building and finds its way into every corner of our island home.

Sign-ups for service projects will be available soon. We encourage everyone to participate, regardless of age or ability.
