Invitation to sing in the 2023 presentation of Handel’s Messiah at Central Union Church

Aloha mai kākou,

On behalf of Central Union’s ministry of music, it is with great excitement that we invite you to sing in the return of our annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, December 10, at 7:00pm, as our community ensemble, The Hawai‘i Nui Chorale, an ensemble dedicated to the performance of extended choral works.

While we continue our storied tradition in weekly rehearsals that leads to a performance with members of the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra, this year we continue our choral ministry’s mission in championing and celebrating our island’s source culture and the preservation of the Hawaiian language by again performing an edition of Handel’s Messiah i ka ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i (in the Hawaiian language). Our performance will partner with our ensemble in residence, Nā Wai Chamber Choir.

Click HERE to find our rehearsal schedule with locations and instructions. Thursday rehearsals will be led by Sarah Young, Director of Choirs at Central Union Church. Our dress rehearsal and performance will be conducted by Dr. Jace Kaholokula Saplan, Artistic Director at Central Union Church; Artistic Director of Hawai‘i’s Nā Wai Chamber Choir; and Director of Choral Activities at Arizona State University.

We encourage pre-registration. Click HERE (bit.ly/cuc2023messiah) for the online registration form (preferred). Please indicate your preference for hard copy, or digital files, so that an adequate number of printed vocal scores can be prepared.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our Director of Choirs, Sarah Young, at sarah- young@centralunionchurch.org.

We hope to see you at our first rehearsal!

Mahalo nui,

Margaret Lloyd, Director of Music Ministries
Sarah Young, Director of Choirs
