Pastor Brandon: This is Pastor Brandon for this week’s devotional we decided to do something a little differently. Well, I guess I should say, I decided to do something a little different and I’m pulling along my friends for the ride and they’re gracious enough to try out with me.

So we’re going to be talking about courage or daring or boldness, kind of all three of those ideas. And the format is simple:

It’s just myself, Pastor David, and Pastor Mary discussing a few of these ideas.

Is there a Bible verse or a story that comes to mind for either of you about courage?

Pastor David: Okay, for me, the first image that pops to my head was Joshua. As Moses dies and Israelites have been wandering in the desert for 40 years, complaining all the 40 years long about how bad it is and how they wish they could go to this promised land Joshua is given the reign of leadership with a direct call or statement to be strong and courageous; to be strong and very courageous (Joshua 1:6-9). And was the courage an invitation about him going into a foreign land or was it an invitation for him to be courageous with the people that he has been stuck in the desert with for 40 years, to lead them into the Promised Land, or a combination thereof. That the unknown you need courage to walk into and taking your family with you takes a different kind of courage knowing all the complexity that that brings with it.

And when they get to the new land would they happy or would they be upset, and it’s a leap of faith to walk into the unknown. And so to me, that’s the courage that’s needed.
