Godly Play is a Montessori-based program designed to teach children sacred stories from scripture, help them become familiar with the rhythms of liturgy and the liturgical calendar, and to nurture the inherent spirituality of children. Godly Play is the faith formation program we use with our keiki here at Central Union Church, but it can be used in a variety of settings with a range of ages!

Godly Play begins with the core stories of the Bible, such as creation and the exodus. It then builds on these central narratives by telling more stories from the Hebrew Bible and New Testament throughout the year. Since Godly Play follows its own storyline, children may hear different parts of the Bible than what their parents hear during the service. However, Godly Play does mirror the lessons heard by the whole congregation during feast days and special liturgical seasons such as Advent and Easter.

During these Learning Tree sessions, our Director of Children’s Ministries, Cayanna Herrera, will lead us in a time of Godly Play, geared toward adults, that will help you reflect and engage with your faith at a deeper and more personal level. Our worship services on these three Sundays will be closely linked to the Godly Play stories that will be shared in the Learning Tree. (Cayanna will also share the Godly Play story in our online worship each Sunday.) Please join us and enjoy the opportunity to grow through these stories!
