Our denomination, the United Church of Christ (UCC), made history this year doing “a new thing” by electing the Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson as its General Minister and President. She is the first woman to lead the UCC and also the first woman of African descent and the first immigrant to be elected to this position! Thompson was officially installed with a joyous celebration last month on October 20 at a church in Ohio, not far from the UCC national offices.

We at Central Union have the exciting opportunity to meet Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson as she passes through Honolulu this month! Come and help us welcome her and hear about her vision for our wider church!

(If you can’t make the November 16 event, there will be another opportunity to hear from her on November 25 in the Parish Hall from 2-4 PM in an open forum hosted by our Hawai‘i Conference UCC. More info to come.)
