Isaiah 62:1-5

Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.  Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; you save humans and animals alike, O LORD…They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.  For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.” – Psalm 36:5-9

The majority of the Bible focuses on the relationship between God and humanity.  This is understandable given that humans, by divine inspiration, wrote the scriptures (if mongoose wrote their version of a Bible we’d understand if it focused on the relationship between rodents and God).  Even with an anthropomorphic focus there are still ample scriptures that talk of God’s love of all creatures.  God called the flora and the fauna good and in this way they also bear the fingerprints of our good God.

I so appreciate the scriptures that speak of creation’s inclusion in the heart and plan of God.  It reminds me that God’s love is yet greater still.  It reminds me that through God we are connected to the creatures great and small of creation.

When we extoll our good fortune to live in a place with so much natural beauty, we are saying that we live in a place where testimony of God’s faithfulness, God’s provision, God’s creativity and care abound.  Look around, God loves all of creation, including you.
