Devotional Reflection: “Lay Your Little Before Jesus”
In the roar of a hungry crowd, Jesus looked at five loaves and two fish—laughably small—and didn’t hesitate. He took the meager offering, blessed it in his hands, and invited everyone to sit. In that moment, scarcity met trust, and the impossible became a feast. The hillside echoed with the sounds of sharing, wonder, and the promise that no gift is too small when God is at work.
Today, that same miracle calls us to offer what we have—our time, our talents, our treasure—without tallying its worth. When we lay our “little” before Jesus, he doesn’t ask for more; he asks for faith. And from that faith flows abundance: baskets overflowing, hearts full, and communities transformed by radical hospitality.
And when the crowd had eaten their fill, twelve baskets of leftovers remained. These remnants remind us that God’s provision isn’t a one-time gift but a continual cascade that nourishes both present need and future possibility. We are invited not only to receive this grace but to gather what is left—to steward our surplus into the lives of others who hunger still. In doing so, our “leftovers” become the seeds of new miracles, testifying that God’s generosity never runs dry.
Reflection Questions:
- What “five loaves and two fish” are you clutching, doubting its value?
- Where in your life do you feel the ache of hunger—spiritually, emotionally, or physically—and how might you bring that to Jesus?
- How can you practice trust this week by offering a small gift and watching God multiply it?
- How might you gather and share the “leftovers” of your blessings to feed someone else’s need?
