Teach me, Lord, to listen.
The Psalms have a way of putting words to mouth of the prayers of our soul. While no one language can fully contain the fullness of our desire and need, we often find a word(s) that sit quietly within us. If you feel that the words you utter fall short of the depth of the desire of your soul, then you are in the company of the saints and the faithful!
Psalm 85 is a prayer given to the people to express and share in their faithful pursuit of God. Read this with a slow and steady voice trying to be attentive to the words, and the depth of meaning, they are saying.
This passage speaks to the heart of the active listening to God’s voice. It says,
Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
for he will speak peace to his people,
to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.
Yes, as the Lord speaks, peace transcends. When we turn to God, God not only hears, but speaks. Today, may this short passage rest within you, guide you and invite you to listen to the Spirit’s whisper!
