See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19, NIV)

We use phrases such as “window of opportunity,” “inflection point,” and “stars aligning” to describe unique moments in time. This moment in time for our church is all of the above. We are poised to transition to a new fiscal year. We have voted to investigate new development opportunities on both campuses. The search for the next Senior Minister is progressing. A new Council initiative will help us prioritize Faith Formation and Welcome & Engagement. The circumstances are truly aligning to create this unique crossroads in the history of Central Union.

During such a time as this, it is important that we also align our efforts with our values, the principles that keep us grounded as a congregation.

Two of our values are Discovery/Kaunānā and Transformation/Loli‘ana. Discovery of what it means to be new creations in Christ allows transformation to become a reality. In this moment in time, transformation can and will happen when we move together through the window of opportunity that has been opened. As we discover how we are transformed into creations who embody Christ, that newness of life overflows into the lives of others.

Reflect
What is something you’ve discovered that has transformed you?
How have you been transformed by being part of Central Union Church?
How might we transform if we are open to discovering new, different ways of being and doing?

Prayer
God, increase our sense of wonder so that we may explore new possibilities and discover what you have in store for us. Transform us so we will be ready for the “new thing” that is springing forth, and so that we may be agents of transformation ourselves.

Throughout the month of May, we reflect on how our shared values call us to Step Up and Step Out.
