Aloha friends!

Together we share an incredibly rich tradition of ministry and mission here at Central Union Church. Throughout our church’s history, members have joined together in decision-making and support of this beloved community. Today we stand on their shoulders as we find ourselves at a critical juncture.

Lots of exciting things are happening! The search for our next Senior Minister is progressing with anticipation of exciting news in the next couple of months. The congregation recently voted to pursue thoughtful re-development of Central Union’s properties to ensure ministry and mission for generations to come. The decision to shift our fiscal year to begin in August will now align with the preschool’s and church’s program year. The Council has chosen to focus on the ministry areas of Faith Formation and Welcome and Engagement as we work to strengthen our life together.

On May 7th, 2023, we began our special Step Up, Step Out campaign! This campaign was created as an opportunity for members (and friends) to further participate in the mission and ministry of Central Union Church. Throughout the open conversations hosted by the Vision Team leading up to the March 5th Special Congregational Meeting, we heard many ideas of what could be done to support the church. We give thanks that our members have expressed a greater desire to contribute in new and exciting ways!
Our Step Up, Step Out campaign lifts up specific ministries of the church with much potential for growth, and offers ways to support what is currently happening in the life of CUC.

We have the opportunity to stand together, to Step Up and Step Out, as we move into the future.
You can Step Up by increasing your giving for the fiscal year that begins in August. During this unique moment in our history, our Step Up commitments will reduce the church’s need to depend on the endowment fund to fill the financial gap. You can Step Out by volunteering to serve in one of the two ministry areas of focus that will increase our capacity to Engage and Embrace ALL.

Please consider how you can Step Up and Step Out for your church and let us know by completing a Commitment Form. A commitment of involvement and financial giving from members allows the church leaders to plan how the congregation can best strengthen our witness on the island and beyond. Please prayerfully consider how you can formally join others to stand in the gap for our ministry and mission. Commitment Forms will be collected in worship when we celebrate Pentecost on May 28th. They can also be mailed to the Church Office or completed online: bit.ly/step4cuc. (see below)

May we each Step Up and Step Out and pray for our beloved congregation, trusting that the One who has begun a good work in us will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6).

Love Never Faileth!

Together in Ministry,

Rev. Mary Herbig
Minister of Congregational Life & Care
